Alabama’s Pleasures Store Hosting 2nd Annual Guns for Toys Event

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Pleasures store owner Sherri Williams has announced the second annual Guns for Toys event, set for Saturday, Feb. 11 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“This is my contribution to making love, not war, here in Alabama, where guns are legal and adult toys are not,” Williams said.

During the Guns for Toys event, Pleasures will be giving away romance inspiring gifts equal to the value of the guns offered in trade. A licensed gun dealer will be on-site from to assess the value and condition of the guns presented.

“We’re loading our silver bullets to take aim at the hearts of gun enthusiasts who wish to kiss a woman rather than their gun this Valentine’s Day,” Williams said. “Last year was successful and this year our goal will be to take another 100 guns off the streets.”

Guns in any condition can be traded in for pleasure products during the event. All guns that were used in a crime will be handed over to the authorities while others will be disassembled and sold to a parts dealer. The proceeds of ‘Guns for Toys’ will benefit the victims of violent crimes through the Huntsville Fallen Officers Memorial Charity.

In 2007 Williams' store captured the national spotlight when it challenged a state ban on sex toys claiming it violated the constitutional right to privacy. The case ultimately reached the Supreme Court.

“I’ll give you my vibrators when you pry them from my cold, dead hand,” she said in a “20/20” segment with John Stossel.

But Alabama’s ban has a medical loophole that allows residents to buy sex toys prescribed by a doctor. Customers must fill out a detailed form citing their health reasons for buying the sex products and can only buy the items if the reason is considered "a bona fide medical, scientific, educational, legislative, judicial or law enforcement purpose."
